England Hockey captain Barry Middleton (pictured in red) has been ruled out of the ABN AMRO Champions Trophy, which starts on Sunday, after breaking his toe in a training match on Friday. He will be replaced by Bowdon forward Alastair Brogdon.
The 26-year-old captain, who it was reported last week will move from Dutch club HGC to German side Der Club an der Alster for the 2010/2011 season, was struck on the foot by the ball during an uncapped practice match against Spain during the squad’s training camp at Lilleshall last week. He will now miss the ABN AMRO Champions Trophy in Mönchengladbach, Germany.
Bowdon forward Alastair Brogdon replaces Middleton in the squad.
A replacement captain for the tournament will be appointed once the team arrives in Germany.
England’s Champions Trophy campaign starts against Germany on Saturday.
www.laola1.tv will stream live coverage of the tournament online.
