A shock defeat for the home side looked on the cards when a Kazuhiro Tsubouchi PC goal brought the Japanese level at 4-4 in the 60th minute at Highfields, Nottingham.
The captain’s strike was the third penalty corner goal from the visitors, with Katatsuyoshi Nagasawa also netting two accomplished drag-flicks. The admirable Yoshihiro Anai added one from the field.

A young GB side raced to a 3-0 lead in 25 minutes through Ashley Jackson, James Tindall and skipper Barry Middleton. GB took a 4-1 lead early in the second half through Nick Catlin in the 40th minute before the Japanese resurgence.
It was the ever-reliable James Tindall who restored GB’s lead in the 62nd minute with his second of the day. Jonty Clarke then secured the win in the 68th minute with a sliding finish after some determined work by Richard Alexander on the left baseline.
